Govt panel on EV testing standards to submit report this month

Worried about the EV fire that grew in the country, the government has formed a committee to bring standard operating procedures (SOP) on battery certification and quality control to help EV makers develop efficient and safe products for consumers.

This committee has experts from the Indian-Bangalore Science Institute, Navy Laboratory and Technology Laboratory in Andhra Pradesh, and Indian-Madras Technology Institutes, among others.The panel has been assigned to formulate SOPs for battery certification and testing and validation of the main battery components, the source said.

Fresh standards will focus on the lack of foreign cell suppliers and battery components.The center that previously sent notifications to EV producers such as Ola Electric, Okinawa Autotech and Pure EV, among others, warned them why the punishment should not be carried out against them because they sent two damaged electricity to the public.

The EV maker was given until the end of this month to respond in detail the notification.After the response enters, the government will decide which criminal acts must be taken, if any, against the guilty EV maker.Last month, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), which is under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs of the Union, sent a notification to Pure EV and Motor Boom after their electronics exploded in April.

The initial findings of the Investigation Committee conducted by the government on EV fires also identified problems with battery cells or design in almost all electricity-wheeled fire incidents in this country.

Experts find defects in battery cells and battery design in almost all EV fires.This defect occurs because two -wheeled electricity producers such as Okinawa Autotech, Pure EV, Jitendra Electric Vehicle, Ola Electric and Boom Motors may use “low -level materials for cutting costs”, investigations of the Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have previously revealed.
